Poland’s state music radio station is facing an exodus of talent and a boycott by musicians after it expunged all the evidence that a protest song against the ruling party had topped a weekly poll of the public’s favourite tracks.

The star presenter who had been the voice of the country’s longest-running chart show for 35 years quit in response, and the station’s former director said the “institution has been completely destroyed”.

Polskie Radio 3, popularly known as Trojka (The Three), was founded 60 years ago during the communist era. Broadcasting genres from rock and pop through to jazz, it has retained a large audience and is known for its music chart each Friday, when listeners vote for the nation’s best-loved track of the week.
